	The district principal town Mühldorf upon Inn is situated in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, halfway between Munich and Passau, on the banks of the river Inn. It owes its central location to the intersection of three main traffic roads east of Munich, the highway A94/B12 and the federal roads 2092 and B 299. 	The total town area covers 2,939 hectares and its road net is 131 km long. The railway junction connects the 7 major railway lines from Munich, Rosenheim, Freilassing, Burghausen, Simbach upon Inn, Passau and Landshut, forming a star-shaped network of lines called Linienstern Mühldorf. Mainly trade and handicraft businesses have settled down in Mühldorf and her immediate surroundings. The town is headquarters of all district authorities and at the same time a shopping and service centre for about 200,000 people. The cultural programme of Mühldorf not only includes theatre and cabaret, classical music, jazz, rock and pop music and folk music, but also an extensive range of cinema showings, exhibitions and events for children.
