A walk through the old town centre
Being an independent middle centre Mühldorf is a modern and important shopping centre in south-east Bavaria, that does not, however, deny its historical character.

Our interesting walk through the historic town starts in front of the church St. Katharina, which was built around 1300. The current building dates from the second half of the 15th century and was refurbished in Baroque style in 1756. The ceiling of the interior, the chancel and the nave were decorated with craftsmanlike frescos depicting scenes of the life of St. Katharina. In close vicinity of the church there used to be a cemetery for plague victims, which had to be extended in 1611 and 1634. We walk through the suburb called Katharinenvorstadt to the Pflegschloss, which was built by the prince-bishop Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg in 1539. It reminds us of the times when Mühldorf was still under Austrian sovereignty. Today it encloses the tax office.
